Woke up this morning to the sounds of cows mooing, sheep baaing and all kinds of birds chirping. Definitely feel like we’re in the Swiss Alps. We were wide awake at 4:55 in the morning due to this nature ruckus.

Once we were out and about we began the day’s activity with a light workout. Mostly it ended up being light because of our worn down condition as a result of the previous day’s hiking. We had the gym all to ourselves which was great and it was a really nice facility. Once we left the gym we stopped by the grocery store so we could make sandwiches and pack snacks for the day’s hike.

Today’s hike was a long one. We took a tram up the mountain so we could skip the 2,200 ft elevation gain hike from yesterday. This hike took us in a large loop to visit 5 lakes that were spread out all over the beautiful valley above Findeln.

The trail started out quite steep and took us on many trails used for skiing and snowboarding during the winter months. It looks like it is an epic place for both.

We sat for lunch at the first lake and took in the amazing view.

We quickly visited lakes 2,3 and 4 because weather was starting to move in and we still had 2.5 hours of hiking left.

The last lake is a viewpoint where many famous photos of the Matterhorn were taken and I can see why. It is a perfect vantage point. Unfortunately by the time we got there the peak was completely socked in. The lake still had ice covering most of it which made for some cool photos still and had some really cool alpine flowers growing all around it. The highest concentration we have seen so far.
After 4.5 hours of hiking all over the valley we finally arrived back in Zermatt. We promptly headed to the room to re-group and then back to the gym to stretch and roll out. After that we picked up some chocolate at the grocery store and out to dinner.

Dinner was at a very cool old hotel restaurant La Dolce Vida. There was softly playing reggae/ ska music in this beautifully decorated Italian restaurant where we ordered green curry with chicken and mangos. Penne pasta with onion, bacon, covered in cheese with a side of applesauce for dipping.

Now off to bed.
